God i love carol of the bells. Spookiest, eeriest music ever. Reading anne mccaffrey's The Ship Who Sang and The City Who Fought.

27 October 2007

I think i'm drunk. I don't like it, doesn't feel funny or pleasant at all.

25 October 2007

Today it's italo calvino's The Castle of Crossed Destinies. Not as great as Invisible Cities though.
The spindoctors are putting a story out that the glorietta explosion was accidental, stored diesel and methane from the toilets. I'm impressed that they can sell that load of methane with a straight face. Cmon, so instead of a bomb, it was spectacular, extraordinary criminal neglect? And why are the owners meekly bending over for this? They're being accused of multiple manslaughter, endangerment.
The other day i got jill thompson's manga, Death: at Death's Door. Never mind the goth girl (who i never much liked anyway) Delerium stole the show. Though for reasons of cute she was more Delight in this book.
Currently reading marisha pessl's Special Topics in Calamity Physics, it's a clever meta-novel in the dave eggers/david mitchell style, with a touch of donna tartt. See, the referentiality's affecting me already. Also, pessl is a stone fox. Arf.

The protagonist in gene wolfe's The Death of Dr Island has the same name as me. My middle name isn't kenneth and the surname differs by two vowels. Another character has my surname, spelled correctly, in steven brust's Brokedown Palace.
Two blocks over, there's a house with the word "God"welded to the gate. When i walk past, i get the urge to press the doorbell and ask "Is God in? I surely would like to have a word with Him."

20 October 2007

News of the glorietta bombing came through the grapevine soon after the blast. Security checks everywhere will be a little more intense for a while.

17 October 2007

In Superman Returns, the big comeback scene, we get the space shuttle and a baseball diamond. A bit much, one thinks "what next, the iwo jima memorial?"

15 October 2007

Re-tiling my floor isn't how i imagined i'd spend my vacation.

13 October 2007

just overheard some xenogears music on a local news show.

12 October 2007

They're setting up a bonsai exhibit at araneta. I should check that out this weekend, take pics.

11 October 2007

There are carnivorous plants, but why not herbivorous plants?

09 October 2007

Acting alone is hard, but still better than the alternative, waiting for other people to get their shit together.
Scarily fast butt-puckering white-knuckle midnight bus ride home. Driver kept honking the horn for no readily apparent reason. Probably thought the gremlins were closing in on his tweaker ass.

08 October 2007

Reading vinge's a fire upon the deep. The parallels with iain m. banks's culture books are obvious. Someone broke the door off the freezer, now the rest of the refrigerator ices up. It never stops, there's always something going wrong.

07 October 2007

I just realized that my lighter looks like a baby version of rollo's "dragon"in neuromancer.
Came home, power's out all over. Went back to the malls, they have juice off of backup generators, but no internet.
This would be a good time to rob a bank, everyone's watching the pacquiao fight.
I read in the news that some govt officials are protesting a slur on filipino doctors on Desperate Housewives. Jesus, let it go. This oversensitive crap just makes us look like touchy weenies with a vast inferiority complex. It would be great if filipinos channeled all the energy they use on boosterism into actual achievement instead.
Been playing with the torch lighter i got last week. I like lighters, though i've never smoked. It's symbolic, promethean, man's progress, control over nature kinda thing. Anyone who's tried starting a friction fire knows it's freaky hard. Now, anyone can conjure flame at the push of a button.

05 October 2007

My back's starting to ache. That's caffeine tension, need to exercise more. Still savoring Schismatrix, now one of my all-time favorite books.

03 October 2007

Currently reading bruce sterling's schismatrix. I've tried sterling books before and didn't like them, but i'm pleasantly surprised at how much i'm enjoying this one.

02 October 2007

On the company website: "Test- please ignore." Too late. Later, "Some minor issues were identified through testing which have now been fixed and sanity checking has completed successfully."Sanity checking?
It's amazing that in all the years i've been wandering around manila by myself, i've never been mugged. Partly that's my fast stride, even panhandlers have a hard time getting a bead on me.

01 October 2007

Why don't they sell models of the burj al-arab? It's far more beautiful than the statue of liberty.
I've been wondering if lysol could be used as an improvised field antiseptic, for wounds. Checked wiki, apparently not. Odd, in these litigious times anything in a spray can has a warning on it.
Lol. Calista flockhart said that 99% of acting comes from the other actor. Where should the other actor get his 99%, i wonder?
